The first time I remember having an actual panic attack was in my 10th grade Biology class. My teacher always used class time to have students read the textbook aloud and then he would add interjections as the class moved along. I kept reading and tried to ignore the sensations in my body and the thoughts that were racing through my mind.

Then, about halfway through the second paragraph I reached a point where my heart rate and breathing were so elevated that I found it very difficult to even speak. My voice started quivering and cracking and I just felt like I had no control over what I was saying or doing. So, I stopped in the middle of the paragraph and announced to the classroom and my instructor that I thought I was going to be sick. My teacher told me to go to the restroom and I jumped up and bolted out of the classroom without any hesitation. I ran downstairs to the bathroom and within several minutes the sensations began to pass. I was completely freaked out.
